The island of Kauai, also known as the Garden Isle, is the fourth in size and significance of the 8 major Hawaiian islands. Also fourth in consideration as a destination for a Hawaiian getaway, but that is not to say that it has nothing to offer.

Kauai has two major physical features that are also its two major attractions. Taking up much of the west and northwest coastline are the Na Pali sea cliffs. Standing an impressive 1300' above sea level, these sea cliffs can only be appreciated by boat, helicopter, or hiking, as there are no roads that traverse this part of the island. And, during the winter months when winds are predominantly out of the north, only by helicopter or hiking.

Also on the western side of the island is Waimea Canyon, also known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. This picturesque canyon offers multiple hiking trails, ranging from a short walk to lookout points to hiking your way down to the canyon floor. You can also make arrangements for a bike ride down from near the top back along the road to sea level...all downhill!

What you will find no shortage of on Kauai are the beaches! Many of those picturesque, sandy beach scenes you've seen photographed and used in posters and ads for Hawaii have been taken on Kauai. And, speaking of photographed, Kauai is also a movie makers favorite location. Among the most noted films that most people think of is Jurassic Park. (The good news is, you will be able to find your stretch of relatively deserted beach without having to worry about any of those Jurassic remnants to worry about.)

What you won't find much of on Kauai is nightlife! Kauai is known for its laid back lifestyle, more so than any clubbing action. So, if partying is on your list of things to do, you may want to skip Kauai and head for Waikiki and the Honolulu nightlife.

Having said that, if you are looking for a luau to go to, I would have to say that your best bet would be Smith's Family Garden Luau. Smith's has been serving up tourist services for decades and is most known for its Smith's Fern Grotto tours up the Waimea River, but they operate a very popular luau as well. Unlike most, their entertainment is held after dinner in a separate location from the luau itself. They do sell out regularly, so you'll want to make reservations well in advance.

Other than that, what Kauai has the most to offer is a great atmosphere for unwinding and relaxing. Grab your camera and enjoy the scenery and numerous waterfalls. Kauai is one of the lushest islands and is also the location of the 2nd most wettest spot in the world, Mt. Waialeale. So, enjoy your visit and remember to pack both your sunscreen and mosquito repellent.

New York City is one of the most visited places in the world, there is so much to see and to do there. It is good to have some idea of what the city has to offer, to make the most of your visit, both day and night. Having been there, a few times, these are my choices for a first time visitor, or even a repeat visitor.

1. Rockerfeller Center, between 5th and 6th Avenues, in Manhattan, was built during the great depression at a time when it provided employment that was badly needed. It is home to the cities most noteworthy landmarks and attractions. A tour of the center will take you to places not seen by the casual visitor and includes noteworthy landmarks and celebrated attractions as shown below. On the 70th floor is the Top of the Rock Observation Deck" which begins with a thrilling ride on one of the glass ceiling sky shuttles to the top, where there are unobstructed 360 degree views of the city below. Then there is the famousRadio City Music Hall, which has been restored to its original 1930's splendor. Over the years it has been home to the famous, such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Elton John and Anita Baker, and of course the famous Rockettes This year the Radio City Christmas Spectacular celebrates its 78th season and features the Rockettes in the classic 1933 "Parade of the Toy Solders". Outside are the beautiful Channel gardens, running the length of the Promenade, where no matter what season, there are always plenty of greenery. In winter the legendary Ice skating rink comes alive with visitors and New Yorkers alike, spinning and twirling amid a backdrop of sparkling lights. Visitors who are lucky to be in the city in December can join thousands of spectators, for the lighting of the giant Christmas Tree, a ceremony that has been performed for 75 years, It is lit by 30,000 environmental lights and crowned with a Swarvoski crystal star, this year it will be lit on Nov. 30th.

The concourse, a complete underground city, with a vast network of pedestrian passageways that easily connects every building in the center. There are over a 100 fabulous stores, 40 places to get a bite to eat and seven subway lines. It is a destination in itself and definitely worth a visit.

2. Times Square, perhaps one of the most famous sights in New York City, was originally called Longacre Square. The name was changed in 1904, which was the first time the New Years Eve celebration was held, but the first "ball drop" did not occur until 1907. The ball drop has happened every year since, except in 1942 and 1943, due to war time restrictions. Stretching from 42nd to 27th street, at the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue, it has been called the Crossroad of the world and the Great White Way, it is the only neighborhood with zoning ordinances requiring every building owner to display illuminated signs. Here you'll find the Theatre District, NASDAQ Market site and the NY Times Headquarters. For a period of time the area was not recommended, but with the opening of a Disney store, which attracted family friendly business, it is again recommended for tourists, and a place I always visit.

3. FAO Schwartz, located at 767 Fifth Avenue, is a store for kids with an unparalleled collection of toys, dress-up and play areas, a do-it-yourself department and a doll factory, where kids can design their own 10-inch doll, nearly live-size giant Steiff stuffed animals and a child-size Ferrari, with leather interior, that travels at 15MPH. Be sure to allow plenty of time to visit here, especially if the kids are in tow.

4. Soho a one time artist's mecca is now a posh outdoor Mall, with cobbled streets and great shopping.

5. Tiffany and Company, at 727 Fifth Avenue haslong a favourite of visitors to the big jewellery houses, they welcomes everyone, whether they arrive by Town cars, Taxis or Tour Buses. There are key rings, cuff links, and money clips for sale, as well as expensive watches and kitchen ware and their classic 6-prong diamond engagement ring.

6. Ellis Island, one of the most popular places in New York City, can be reached by a free ferry ride. This is where it all began for most immigrants to the new world. Here also is the Statue of Liberty, a gift to America on its 100th birthday, from France. It stands 305 feet tall from the bottom of its base to the tip of the Torch. Tours are available but require reservations due to the large amount of people visiting.

7. Museum of Modern Art or simply MOMA, between 5th and 6th Avenues in Midtown Manhattan, exhibits, Architecture and Design, Paintings and Sculpture, Lectures and Events, a great place to visit and bring the entire family.

8. Empire State Building, a favourite of visitors for over a century. For the thrill of a lifetime journey to the 86th floor Observatory, on a high speed elevator, that shoots up 1050 feet. At the top visitors can either peek out from behind a glass enclosed pavilion, or be brave and see the city from the open-air decks lining all four sides of the building. The building is open 8am to 10pm daily. Also on the Second floor, is Skyride, another way to see the city that never sleeps, zoom through the city's famous traffic, soar a mile above the city to experiencing the famous sights then zoom down to the sidewalk, in the blink of an eye. This awesome, aerial tour takes you above, around and even below all the city has to offer from the comfort of a specially built, motion simulated big screen seat.

9. World Trade Center. This is perhaps the most visited place in New York City, due to when America was attacked and thousands of our citizens and other nationalities were killed. It is now a place of remembrance. Visit the Visitors Center at Ground Zero, walk by the exhibits, see the pictures, read the tributes, but do not miss it.

10. Yankee Stadium, 161st Street. Home of the New York Yankees, is almost a self-contained city of its own. Beside the Baseball Diamond there is a Museum, martini bar, Sun sports bar and a New York Steak and Hard Rock Cafe. There are also 56 luxury suites and 410 party suites. If you visit New York when the Yankees are not playing, the stadium can still be visited as it is open year round.

The South and the Gulf

Continuing my series on perfect Honduras vacation resorts, restaurants and attractions I've put together a list of the top 5 places to eat in the Trujillo area. I haven't included either Santa Fe or Puerto Castilla and will be putting something else together for those areas. Enjoy!

5 great places to eat in the Trujillo area

1. The Mystic at Banana Beach - Without any doubt the best places to eat within the Trujillo Bay area. Banana Beach resort has been open for around 2 years and, thanks to its German chef Juergen, has blown all other restaurant contenders out of the water. The Mystic has the look of a relaxed beach bar, but with luxury level amenities and service. I would recommend anything on the standard menu, but the seafood is especially good. Every couple of weeks Juergen puts on a special menu and for about $12-15 you can have amazing Caribbean / Italian / French Bistro cuisine. Not to be missed!
2. The Buccaneer - A nice little bar in the centre of Trujillo with AC, the Buccaneer offers a pretty standard bar menu. I have heard good reports of the BBQ meat items but have not tried them myself. Avoid the nachos as they are pretty hit and miss. While the rest of the menu could be described as merely satisfying the linguini pasta dish is excellent. A nice place to sit and have a drink and chat with the lovely Claudia who runs the place.
3. Casa Kiwi - The Kiwi burger is without doubt the best burger in Trujillo, they pile the ingredients on so high it looks like it might topple any second! The rest of the menu is so, so, but the conch seviche is worth a look as well. Surprisingly expensive for budget accommodation, the restaurant is part of the bar and has a fantastic, relaxed atmosphere. A walk along the beach after a meal is recommended as Casa Kiwi has one of the best views of the bay.
4. Christopher Columbus - A high-end hotel next to Trujillo airport and very close central Trujillo, Christopher Columbus offers two very different dining experiences. Restaurant Isabella offers some very good pasta dishes and has great wine options. The Champa bar offers traditional bar food which is actually very good. You pay for the pleasure of eating at Christopher Columbus but I would definitely recommend The Champa for a snack and a beer.
5. Rogue Galleria has a menu very similar to The Buccanner and is well-known for its burgers, although they do not reach Casa Kiwi standards! The food is pretty well priced and you can usually meet some interesting locals and gringos just by having a meal and a couple of drinks. Located on the beach road in town, Rogue Galleria has a great view of the bay, even if it is a more crowded view than either Banana Beach or Casa Kiwi.

If you are planning a trip to Aarhus, Denmark, the second largest city in Denmark, then you will want to make sure to visit the following places in order to make your trip as fun and enjoyable as possible.

Before you make any decisions about where and what to see, I suggest you think about getting a tourist card (called the Aarhus Card) which actually gives you free admission or generous discounts on many of the attractions, plus free transport on the local transportation networks. 1. My first recommendation is a really terrific attraction called Den Gamle By, or The Old City. Den Gamle By is a collection of historical homes that have been gathered from around Denmark and transported to this park. Many of the buildings were dismantled piece by piece, numbered and rebuilt on-site. This is like taking a walk back in time and seeing how people in Denmark lived. It can easily take a whole day to explore.

Some is fantastic, like "Boy", while, in my opinion, some of the modern art seems like a "slap in the face". I really like the museum except for their so-called modern art and I usually pass through this area quickly, since only a few pieces are worth a second look. The rest of the place is amazing.

3. The Moesgaard Museum is dedicated to the exploration of the Iron Age and the Vikings. There you can find the oldest bogman in Denmark, see actual Viking houses (reconstructed) and experience real live-action Viking wars. It is lots of fun. There is an admission to the museum and indoor exhibits, but it is possible to walk around the grounds for free and see the many buildings.

4. Tivoli Friheden is an amusement park just south of the city and is similar to Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, but Friheden tends to be more about amusements and less about the gardens. There are plenty of rides, including the famous Cobra, and lots of concerts and events - a great place for children and families.

5. Concert Hall Aarhus is another fantastic place to visit. You can actually get into the hall for free and walk around if there are no major concerts going on. But it's well worth getting a ticket to one of their many concerts or activities which go on almost every day. Many of the concerts are free or have very small admission charges. Visiting a country's supermarket can be just as, if not more revealing, than traveling to all of its tourist spots. I live in South Korea, and have visited the N Seoul Tower, which is considered one of the big tourist destinations in Seoul. I told a Korean friend about it who has been living in Korea her entire life, and she has never been. But a Korean Supermarket: that's another story. Go to a Korean Supermarket, where Korean people go at least once a week, and you'll find so many interesting things out about their culture, and just awesome things in general, such as:

1) It's exceptionally crowded. On the weekends, it's overwhelmingly crowded. You won't be able to walk straight and simply get what's on your list. Be prepared to take detours. Be prepared to come to a grinding halt. What's cool about this experience, though, is that your shopping carts are built for crowds. Not only does your cart go forward, but it goes left and right as well, smoothly and seamlessly. Find yourself lucky enough to push a cart in an empty aisle, and you'll never want to push anything but a Korean supermarket cart again.

2) Free samples galore. Feeling hungry, but you're on a tight budget? Go to a supermarket and eat more than you can possibly handle. We're talking about free samples of fruits, milk, cheese, yoghurt, steak (yes, steak), donuts, and more. And there's also no need to worry about that pesky one-sample-per-person rule. In Korea, you'll find lots of people snapping up a bunch of samples, so don't feel ashamed to do the same.

3) Get ready for some noise. Forget about the peaceful shopping music you might be used to. Instead of music, get used to shouting. Lots of shouting. Men shouting. They'll shout from across the store, just to let you know about the sale. MEAT SALE! DELICIOUS MEAT SALE! COME HERE NOW AND GET THIS REALLY DELICIOUS MEAT ON SALE! You'll know about the sale without even reading a sign about it. That's these men's jobs. And it's not as easy as just going to the meat sale and grabbing some: there'll be a line of people waiting to get their's (remember the big crowds?). So wait in line to get a product, and then wait in another line to pay for it. Yikes!

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the cool things you can find at a Korean Supermarket. I won't tell you the rest, because that'll ruin the fun. But, if you ever do find yourself in Korea, skip a tourist spot or two and head over to a Korean Supermarket. You won't regret it!

Las Vegas is an amazing destination, often recognized as the "Entertainment Capital of the World"! One important thing to know is that the Las Vegas Strip is HUGE! It is four miles long with casinos that can take an hour or more to explore. It would certainly be a challenge for anyone to see the myriad of attractions in one trip. For a person of size, the sheer amount of options not to mention ground to cover may seem intimidating at first. But never fear: there are ways to make the experience not only much more manageable but a lot of fun!

1. Choose a smaller hotel. Bill's Gambling Hall is conveniently located in the center of the Strip. One would never consider it to be among the flashiest or upscale properties in Vegas, Nonetheless, it is the smallest casino on the Strip and therefore is extremely easy to enter and exit. At the largest Strip casinos, it can take up to a half-hour to get from your room out to the sidewalk. Contrast that to Bill's where from the front desk, one is less than thirty steps from the coffee shop, the steakhouse, the bell desk, the side exit and the elevator. In addition, it has a prime location in the center of the Strip. One negative is the lack of an upgraded smoke filtration system, which can trap cigarette smoke at busier times. Fortunately, it is rather easy to leave all of that! All of that said, for more of a "wow" factor, there are other notable smaller casinos such as Bally's, Flamingo and Tropicana to consider. Be aware that each hotel-casino has its own personality; you'll want to be certain that it fits your style as well as your needs. It may turn out that a larger Strip property has what you're looking for, after all.

2. Rent a car. If you are flying to Vegas, this will literally save you a lot of legwork. While all casinos offer "free" valet parking, the valets heartily appreciate tips upon securing and especially retrieving your vehicle. I usually give $2-5 upon return of my vehicle and the valets are content, sometimes offering to give directions as appreciation of the higher end amount. This would also give you the option of staying at casinos or other hotels off the Strip, many of which are easier to navigate around. (Note that those who plan to imbibe should choose a designated driver or otherwise avail themselves of a taxi or limo; Las Vegas police officers have zero tolerance when it comes to DUI.)

3. Rent a scooter. In lieu of a car, this can be a convenient way to travel from casino to casino. Don't worry about any sort of stigma in making this choice as it has become an increasingly popular method of transportation. Even typical-sized people increasingly indulge in a scooter in order to get around the Strip faster. You may even revel in the ability to outpace your walking companions! There are numerous mobility suppliers in Vegas that should generally be able to accommodate super-sized customers.

4. Stay downtown. For those who don't know, despite all its glitz and glamour, the Strip is not downtown. In fact, about 90% of it isn't even in the city proper. Downtown Las Vegas, specifically Fremont Street, is north of the Strip. The biggest difference you will find here is the close proximity of all the casinos. Most of the casinos in the area are located under the Fremont Street Experience, a canopy that features music-themed light shows nightly. Another side benefit is that you'll get more overall value for your entertainment dollar, particularly with lower gaming minimums offering more favorable compared to the Strip.

So it is indeed possible for you, a person of size, to enjoy everything that Las Vegas has to offer! I'd encourage you to come to this desert oasis...because you deserve it!
